Extraordinary. He's saying point blank that the Church of England is lying about him. If he's wrong, this is about to become very painful for Boris.
It's certainly high stakes stuff yes. But in a sense, they are already in too deep to back out now. The connections between Lewis, the Conservative party as a whole and individual senior members of the party including Cameron, are deep. If any of this is true then they have made a big error of judgement. There is more still to come out (including letters and emails seen by the BBC) before we can know for sure.

"Jon that's beneath even you."Ouch. This one's going to hurt in the morning.
I can't believe Boris's phone goes off as Lewis is giving his statement - Laurel and Hardy, the City Hall years.
Boris and unfortunately timed phone calls go back years, but on HIGNFY I always assumed he got someone to ring it for a laugh. No laughing matter, this one.TT makes a good point that this isn't just Boris' man, he's had connections with the Tories going back years. I've been trying to work out whether my suspicions of him are just my anti-Tory prejudice or whether the fact that he popped up to agree with the Tories* just as they needed to demonstrate inclusivity and a break with the past was opportunistic. Generally when a customer is desperate to buy but not too sure of what he's buying you have excellent breeding conditions for quacks and charlatans. Show me the results.
boris take your hands out of your pockets. Surely that is not acceptable behaviour at EYLA. I want to see him marching and doing press ups.
