Neither the independent or the Guardian seem to understand what sock-puppeting is.
I would say anybody in such a public position and so well known posting under an alias that is not identfiably them is probably sock puppeting.
The key difference is whether they're commenting about themselves in the third person. I can see where you're coming from though prj45.
What is sock puppeting, nothing sexual, is it?
"Oddly Guardian assistant editor Michael White appeared to be wearing the name tag of my colleague Andrew Gilligan, who was shortlisted for the award."We are all Andrew Gilligan now...
'I'm Andrew Gilligan, and so's my wife!'He really is a figure of fun, now, which is odd considering reading his articles is about as far from fun as a visit to the dentist.
Someone has to call Mr Gilligan on this one; his response so far has been far from satisfactory. Have you spoken to his editor? Have you written to the newspaper? The visits came from their servers, so it's an issue you have with them also. What guarantees can they provide that this 'partner' isn't roaming the halls of their offices in the wee small hours of the morning? Because A.G. seems to be implying by his strong yet potentially selective denial that his "partner" 'kennite' is responsible for the anonymous comments on your site also. You're within your rights to chase Associated Newspapers about this, surely.
You're quite right Tim. I'm not the only one who he has stonewalled on this. Other journalists have not received any responses to their enquiries. In the absence of any full explanation from him, the answers will have to be found elsewhere.
In the absence of any full explanation from him, the royal piss will continue to be taken.
As someone said on the Guardian thread about this. If Gilligan is not Kennite, he is lifting what Kennite says and putting it almost veratim in his columns. That makes him a plagiarist. Should the Standard be employing plagiarists?
I assume 'secretive bachelor' is not-so-subtle innuendo.
Don't know. Don't care
The fact is that for far too long he's laboured under the misapprehension that because something is his opinion it is necessarily then a fact - Sad really, he undoubtedly has the capability to be a truly excellent journalist if it weren't for his monstrous ego, deeply flawed and morally questionable methodology and of course the massive chip on his shoulder.
