Boris Johnson comes out against his own police cuts

Boris Johnson is hitting the headlines this morning for attacking the govenment's planned police cuts.

“If you ask me whether I think there is a case for cutting police budgets in the light of these event, then my answer to that would be no. I think that case was always pretty frail, and it has been substantially weakened… This is not a time to think about making substantial cuts in police numbers."

Except it isn't the government that sets the police budget in London. It's Boris. And Boris isn't increasing the number of police officers in London. He's cutting them:

That's a 4% reduction in police officers and PCSOs in the past year alone.

He's also implementing cuts to safer neighbourhood teams and police station front desks.

If Boris wants to stop these things then he doesn't need to lobby David Cameron on the Today Programme.

He just needs to stop the very cuts that he himself is implementing.

Dear Boris always did have a bit of trouble with reality, didn't he? The government's clearly been caught with it's pants down, but has evidently decided that a bit of pro-police, tough-on-crime, hard-line rhetoric will keep the great unwashed happy. The bastards are probably right, too.

What did you expect because this is how the Tories fuction : Deceit and Lies.

Lets also face the reality here because how is it that the worst riots in British History happened under a Conservative led Coalition Government ?

These riots were not just the result of one man being shoot by the Police, that was just the spark. This country is being run by a deceitful, dishonest, lying, hypocritical Government thats foundations are built on just that. People are desperate and angry because all they see is deceit and corruption all around them.

Now you have Boris Johnson treating people like Morons and trying to make us believe that his Buddy David Cameron wanted these Police cutbacks when it was Boris Himself that wanted them. How deceitful and hypocritical whilst stabbing his own Party and Buddy Cameron in the back. It is no wonder that the wider public cannot trust the Tories and have no respect anymore.

I wonder whether the Tories are about to really turn nastily on each other permanently or does Boris simply have a selfish cunning plan because he knows that Cameron is damaged. Dog eat Dog.

Hate to break it to you, but no, the Govt sets the policing budget for London, not the Mayor. But hey, why let facts get in the way of a good rant?

Hate to break it to you but no, the MPA (formerly chaired by Boris but now by his deputy) sets the budget based on home office funding and the Mayoral precept.

Boris has frozen that precept for three years running which the Mayor claims amounts to an effective cut of 10% in real terms:

He could have raised the precept modestly in order to maintain police numbers/ safer neighbourhood teams etc but he has chosen not to.

Boris is showing where his priorities's a case of popularity before policy.
What did we expect from a buffoon who has spent his life being popular before being right.

If the olympics are a disaster, don't be surprised if Boris turns on the organisers in order to save his chances of re-election. The people of London who voted Boris in for a laugh are now reaping what was sown. A joke mayor who has been found wanting at the first sign of crisis.
